Best Time to Photograph a Marbella Property
Marbella is known for its light. The Costa del Sol gets more than 320 sunny days a year, but the right time still matters when photographing a Marbella property. A change of one hour can transform the way a home looks. Here is how to plan around afternoon light and when another time may be better.
Key figure: The article cites an Inman News study suggesting that properties photographed during golden hour receive 40% more engagement on property portals than those shot at midday.

Why can late-afternoon light work so well?
Midday sun can create harsh shadows and strong contrast. During golden hour roughly the last hour of sun before sunset, light becomes warmer and lower. It can bring out texture on a facade and add depth to outdoor spaces. When photographing a Marbella property, that light can give the home a particularly inviting feel.
What late-afternoon light can add
- Warmth: Golden tones can make a holiday home feel welcoming.
- Softer contrast: Some surfaces are easier to photograph without harsh midday shadows.
- Material texture: Low light can reveal the texture of stone, timber and finishes.
- Windows and reflections: Depending on orientation, lower sun can change reflections and reveal more through glazing.
- Surroundings: Sea, mountains and gardens can take on richer colours.
Approximate golden-hour times in Marbella
To photograph a Marbella property at the best time, check sunset for the date. These times are only seasonal guides:
- Spring, April–May: Around 19:30–20:30.
- Summer, June–August: Around 20:30–21:30.
- Autumn, September–October: Around 19:00–20:00.
- Winter, November–February: Around 17:30–18:30.
Arrive around 30 minutes early to prepare the property. The most useful light for a particular facade can last only 20–30 minutes.
Professional tip: Use a sun-position app to check sunset and the direction of light. West-facing properties can be particularly well suited to an evening shoot.

Beyond the facade: afternoon light indoors
When photographing your Marbella property, outdoor images are only part of the story. Afternoon light can enter rooms and show their connection to terraces. For some interiors, consider blue hour just after sunset, or use the last low sunlight. A west-facing living room may look excellent between 18:00 and 20:00, depending on the season.
How to prepare for an afternoon shoot
- Clean windows and reflective surfaces thoroughly.
- Move awnings or blinds that block useful light.
- Use warm lamps around 2700–3000 K where they suit the scene.
- Arrange cushions, throws and a simply styled dining table.
- If there is a pool, check its lighting for twilight images.
What if you cannot shoot at golden hour?
The ideal time is not always available. If you need to photograph a Marbella property at another time, consider these alternatives:
- Cloudy day: Diffused light can soften shadows inside and outside.
- Early morning: The light is often soft and can suit east-facing homes.
- Careful editing: White balance and tonal adjustments can improve an image, though they cannot replace the real direction of sunlight.
Also: In my property photography packages I consider property orientation and the sun when planning the shoot.

Tools for planning the light
If you are taking the photographs yourself, these tools can help you choose a time for photographing a Marbella property:
- Golden Hour One: Estimates golden and blue-hour times for a location.
- Sun Surveyor: Shows the sun’s path in augmented reality.
- TPE (The Photographer’s Ephemeris): Helps plan outdoor shoots around sunrise and sunset direction.
Use them to see whether evening light will reach the main facade or rear garden.
Marbella afternoon light: FAQs
Is afternoon always better than morning?
It depends on orientation, surrounding buildings and the view. A professional checks the light for each property rather than assuming one time suits all homes.
What if my property faces north?
North-facing homes may receive little direct sun. Soft daylight or blue hour can work well, depending on the property.
Does an evening shoot cost more?
The cost is similar to a standard session. On my pricing page you will find apartment packages from €150 plus VAT. There is no extra charge for golden hour, but the time needs to be planned in advance.
Can hot weather affect an evening shoot?
The light is softer than at midday, and summer temperatures may ease towards sunset. For a longer outdoor shoot, bring water and sun protection.
